Our Story.

The project was inspired by Greg & Gill Mangham’s refusal to accept that all people who are homeless or rough sleepers were in these situations due to some fault of their own or through some form of addiction. Many situations are the result of circumstances beyond the individual’s control. At the same time, there was an increasing awareness that the hospitality industry needed to employ a large number of team members to meet the needs of a growing industry.

Covid Resource Hub

Covid Resource Hub

We understand that Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the hospitality industry leading to reduced hours, capped wages, redundancy, and job insecurity. The CRH has been introduced to help hospitality workers, who have been impacted by Covid 19, navigate the resources available to them. The aim is for those facing hardship during the pandemic to access this support and act as a possible preventative measure against long term unemployment and homelessness.

The Problem.

There are many reasons why people are forced into homelessness such as lack of affordable housing, losing a job, mental health, leaving prison or the armed forces with no home to go to or escaping an abusive relationship.

There are many thousands of people facing or experiencing homelessness across the country today. Being ‘homeless’ can take many forms such as rough sleeping, people living in sheds, garages and other unconventional buildings, sofa surfing, hostels and unsuitable temporary accommodation such as B&Bs. (Ref: Crisis 2020)

In a country with the fifth largest economy, homelessness is a scandal – it is not acceptable. OAPA wants to help to change that.
